Fairfield, CT – Grey skies and a some misty rain created the perfect opportunity for a little indoor storytime, then outdoor planting session, at Fairfield Woods Library Tuesday morning. A roomful of children and their moms nestled together to enjoy several garden-themed books read by Children’s Librarian Cheryl DelVecchio. She also had them join in on a chorus of “Eensy Weensy Spider” before they all marched outside to help get started “Mr. McGregor’s Garden”, a 5’x5’ square foot plot.

Led by Amie Guyette Hall, a square foot garden certified teacher, the children helped dig holes and make homes for a variety of vegetables from snap peas, tomatoes and watermelon to cucumbers, squash, pickles and eggplant. Children were invited to return to the garden during the summer to check on its progress and pick the vegetables they helped plant.
